Privacy Policy for Highlight Notes Sync
Effective date: 2026-07-05
Highlight Notes Sync is a Chrome extension that helps users save highlighted web text, notes, and tags, then manage, export, or optionally sync those records to user-configured WebDAV or Notion destinations.
Data we handle
The extension may store or process the following data:
- Highlighted web text selected by the user.
- Notes and tags entered by the user.
- Source page URL and page title for pages where the user creates highlights.
- Highlight metadata, including color, created time, updated time, deletion state, and sync state.
- Anchor information used to restore highlights on a page, such as exact selected text and nearby page context.
- Extension settings, including optional WebDAV settings and optional Notion settings.
- Authentication information provided by the user for optional sync, such as a WebDAV username/password or a Notion integration token.
How we use data
We use this data only to provide the extension's core features:
- Saving and restoring webpage highlights.
- Displaying page highlights in the current page sidebar.
- Managing, searching, editing, deleting, and exporting saved highlights.
- Grouping highlights by source article.
- Syncing data to WebDAV when the user enables WebDAV sync.
- Syncing data to Notion when the user enables Notion sync.
We do not use user data for advertising, tracking, profiling, creditworthiness, or any purpose unrelated to these extension features.
Local storage
By default, highlight records are stored locally in the user's browser using IndexedDB. Extension settings are stored locally using Chrome extension storage.
Optional WebDAV sync
WebDAV sync is disabled by default. If the user enables WebDAV sync and provides a WebDAV server URL and credentials, the extension reads and writes a JSON snapshot of highlight data at the configured WebDAV path.
The WebDAV server is chosen and controlled by the user. Data sent to that server may include highlighted text, notes, tags, URLs, page titles, timestamps, and sync metadata.
Users should only configure WebDAV servers they trust. HTTPS WebDAV endpoints are recommended for protecting data in transit.
Optional Notion sync
Notion sync is disabled by default. If the user enables Notion sync and provides a Notion integration token and database ID, the extension sends highlight data to the Notion API and writes one Notion database row per source article.
Data sent to Notion may include article title, source URL, tags, highlighted text, notes, timestamps, and highlight count. The user's Notion token is used only to access the Notion database configured by the user.
Notion's own processing of data is governed by Notion's terms and privacy policy.
Data sharing
We do not sell user data.
We do not transfer user data to advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.
User data is shared only when necessary to provide user-enabled sync features:
- With the user's configured WebDAV server, if WebDAV sync is enabled.
- With Notion, if Notion sync is enabled.
We may disclose data if required by applicable law, but the extension is designed so that user highlight data is stored locally or in user-configured services rather than on developer-controlled servers.
Human access
The developer does not operate a server that stores users' highlight records. We do not allow humans to read user highlight data except if a user explicitly provides specific data for support, if required by law, or if necessary for security purposes.
Security
The extension does not load or execute remotely hosted code. Network requests are used for optional WebDAV and Notion sync only.
Authentication information is stored locally in the user's browser. Users should protect their browser profile and use dedicated app passwords or integration tokens where possible.
Data deletion
Users can delete individual highlights or entire article groups from the extension's manager page. Users can also remove local extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension site data in Chrome.
If data has been synced to WebDAV or Notion, users may also need to delete the corresponding data from their WebDAV server or Notion workspace.
Limited Use disclosure
The use of information received from Chrome extension APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide or improve the extension's single purpose: saving, managing, exporting, and optionally syncing user-created webpage highlights and notes.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the extension listing or in-product disclosures will be updated where required.
